Experimental Landscapes - Artist Residency (2011)
Experimental Landscapes
Artist Residency Programme | National Gallery of the Cayman Islands
2009
Images presented investigate the intricate human relationship with our surrounding landscape, more specifically, the exhibition observes a collective desire to control, order, preserve and make sense of our natural environment.
Interests lie in the art making process, functionality, materiality, order, disorder and idealizations. Inspired by Gregory Cajete’s writings on the aboriginal theory, where the natural world is defined by a chaotic system, the work comments on common personal and communal relationships to the natural world.
“The snapshot photographer idealizes the world; by taking a picture, he or she has constructed his or her ideal landscape – perhaps a reflection of how we interact with the world around us. With this exhibition I hope to explore ones relationship with the world, more specifically, I want to visually illustrate our efforts to define our natural landscape.”
